Open weekdays for self guided tours and Sundays for guided tours the Old Adelaide Gaol was in active use from 1841 until 1988. It was the site of 45 executions, including Elizabeth Woolcock in 1873, the only woman to be executed in South Australia. Ghost Tours, Night Tours and Sleep Overs are also available but not for the faint hearted.

Not far from the city centre is the popular Adelaide Zoo featuring the South East Asian rainforest and the Children’s Zoo where children can pet the animals and visit the nursery. Located in shady parklands the zoo is an easy walk from the city centre or there is a bus service or pleasant river cruise to get you there.
What better way to spend an afternoon than wandering through the Anstey Hill Recreation Park where you can visit up to 35 species of reptile and amphibians along with 145 species of native birds. And of course there is a large selection of the usual native animals incl;uding echidnas, kangaroos, bats, carpet snakes, skinks and koalas.
This park is located 16 km from the CBD in Adelaide’s north eastern suburbs, and whilst it has no visitor facilities or amenities it does have a comprehensive network of walking tracks.
